A study by Kimberly Young of the University of Pittsburgh looks into this - ". . .she has heard from 396 people she considers psychologically dependant on using the internet and 100 non-dependant users . . .they reported spending an average of 38.5 hours a week on the internet for personal reasons, compared with an average of 4.9 hours a week for the non-dependant group"
From "Tangled up in the net" The Dominion Infotech Weekly, 19 August 1996, pg 17.
Looking at McLuhan, we might say the internet is a 'cool' drug like medium. Hence the 'dependancy' idea. Hope it helps.
Also, if anyone can identify any immediately relevant material on linkages between Organisational Development and Information Technology, that would be great. Cheers.
