While all is true re: What is an IEP, I believe the most important information a parent can be given with regards to its meaning is that it is a binding, legal document which is extremely powerful in terms of the direction the education of their child with challenges will get. Doubly important is the caregivers willingness to participate in its development. It is the right of the "challenged child" to obtain an IEP-- EVEN IF IT MEANS THEIR CHILD IS THE ONLY ONE IN HIS/HER CLASS! School districts must provide for the children in their district.
