    by Henry Stein, 8/21/98

A superb new book has just been published that compares Classical Adlerian philosophy, theory, and practice with fourteen other therapeutic approaches. Psychoanalytic Versions of the Human Condition: Philosophies of Life and Their Impact on Practice, edited by Paul Marcus and Alan Rosenberg, features essays by sixteen senior analysts, reflecting the influences of Freud, Jung, Adler, Horney, Klein, Winnicott, Kohut, Laing,, Lacan, and other psychoanalytic roots.

The book begins with a historical overview of psychoanalytic therapies, then each of the fifteen contributors provides a comprehensive overview of their view of human nature, concept of psychopathology, and approach to psychotherapy. The third chapter, "Classical Adlerian Theory and Practice," was authored by Henry T. Stein, Ph.D. and Martha E. Edwards, Ph.D.
