Before one considers "standards" shouldn't one consider variables in using the Internet for assessment/testing? I would like to see some research in the area as so many potential variables exist that I suspect could influence any test outcome. For example, the person taking a test could consider his/her responses by resourcing the questions asked or consulting with another as to how would be the "best" way to respond. Other variables, such as color of the screens, size of a monitor, experience with keyboards, ect. may influence test responses in ways one may not expect.
I'll admit that the use of computers most likely would increase the objectivity of testing, however, when the test taker is not monitored during testing, results would be meaningless in my opinion.
This is an area that demands research before "standards" should even be considered. The area would make a good research project for some graduate students.
