Two thoughts come to mind in answer to your question:

(1) John Gottman from the University of Washington did some work in this area. You might want to look at an article by Gottman and Ringland (1981) in Child Development.

(2) Also, Enrico Jones at Berkeley is developing a method of studying child psychotherapy process from video. He might have some input. Try him at eejones@violet.berkeley.edu
