I agree that this is an excellent site. I also agree that leftist politics does seem to play a role in the overall debate. One significant area of disagreement concerns the extent to which Neo-Darwinian mechanisms apply to the human mind. Dennett suggests that Gould et al. want to keep Darwinian thinking boxed up in biology, whereas EP assumes that evolutionary forces shaped the brain (and thus the mind) just as it did the body. I think it significant that Gould and Lewontin are Marxists. Marxism posits that humans are totally malliable and "perfectable" via the proper environment. The point is that it's hard to be both a Marxist AND an adherent to EP.
