As a Fellow WolfWoman, I found it hard to resist my urge to echo your sentiments. Have we not been taught by various techniques and theories that to listen to another's messages is to gain a better understanding of what is being said? Does this also not give us a better understanding of our own thoughts and motivations?
Althought I am not one to lurk for too long, for I find that my own thoughts and intitutions are of benefit to those around me in the cyber-world environment, I find that lurking (ie listening) is what makes my own intuitive responses to verbal, and non-verbal behavior all that more worthwhile.
Again, are we not taught to watch, and use our gut instincts while interpeting the client's non-verbal (body language) behavior, and what it might be telling us? Why should it be so hard to understand when we then take this same skill and transfer it to on-line interactions?
For we all know the signs: "hugs"..."smiles"...":)"..."lol"..."gmta":(great minds think alike), I could easily go on, but you get my point.
This environment is a lot like what we do in our everyday lives, the major difference is that we don't HAVE to respond if we so choose, thereby relieving us of the burden and stresses that we feel while being associated with the "helping professions."
KUDOS TimberWolf!! Sometimes it's this non-response mode that I allow myself to get into that facilitates me to then respond when it is necessary. Freedom of choice is a nice place to be, it would behoove us to remember that on occasion.
Thank you for this forum....
