Well said. I struggle with working with clinicians who can only see pathology in my clients--who they have never sat with and do not know. And despite very clear indications of strength and improvement, we have to keep coming back to what I think are pointless discussions of pathology.
With rare exceptions, I believe my clients "have what it takes," and I transmit that belief to them. I think it gives them courage and hope, and that in and of itself seems therapeutic. It's feels counter-intuitive to me to insist on focusing on their illness.
