    Can meditation be detrimental?
by Jim Spira, Ph.D., ABPP, 10/2/98

I have found that "energy-based" meditations, such as Kundalini, Chi Kung, etc. can indeed be very detrimental if not practiced correctly and under good (experienced) guidance. Buddhist meditations are less likely to have detrimental effects (as would TM, typically). Yet that is if practiced correctly. Again, to echo the other comments above. Find the best and most experienced teacher you can, and you should have beneficial results.
