I am happy to initiate this dialogue with Jim Spira. Dr. Spira is internationally known for his contributions to behavioral medicine. He earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley and has been a serious student of Zen Meditation and of Tai Chi Chuan for more than twenty years. He directs the Institute for Health Psychology and the division of health psychology, Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. Dr. Spira has lectured world-wide on the role of meditation for psychological and medical disorders.
