The questions about what are the common assumptions intrigues me. Because we at DTA have worked cross-culturally (and cross-sex differences) for a long time, I think we don't ask ourselves those questions any more. The basic underlying principle is that becoming "one-brain and one-heart" doesn't mean that any one belief prevails and it comes our work. A multiplicity of views is essential,we believe, to finding truth.
Someone challenged me some days ago to ask myself: When I speak of "combining people's yearnings" or "uncovering and connecting people's yearnin, do I really believe that when we do that they will come together in a vision to inspire each person, my answer is that I believe it does, because I've now seen it so often. What you raise for me is: What do we share globally that makes that true. What's anyone else's answer?
I believe that we each have a yearning to "matter", toe be counted, to be of significance in the world -- and our life experience too often is that we don't - then when we have the opportunity to be part of a community where our very being mattters, we view the world in a new way, and we are connected to others in new ways. I actually believe that what we are engaged in in our work is the process of real empowerment.
That seems to me to be too simple of an answer, but it's what came to me as I read your input, Lilith. Lucky you to getten to go to Europe with Jayne! Kathie
