You are right that EDI is largely being ignored by the profession, but that is going to change rapidly. From all of my contacts at the recent Behavioral Healthcare Tomorrow meetings, it is clear that the electronic world is going to impact mental health professionals whether they want it or not. Part of the problem has been that the companies who make EDI available are doing so in a way that drives practitioners either away or into a state of limbo, not knowing what they want or need to do. HOWEVER, at the same time, other companies are building solid relationships between payers, managed care and billing companies so that when the time comes (and it will come soon) that payers and managed care start requiring EDI, they will be positioned and ready. Heard a lot about this from Mike Hurst, CEO of InStream at BHT.
