There are no controlled studies on the treatment of DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), formerly called MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder). DID clients however need a special approach, a modification of the standard protocol, for safe and effective use of DID. Nearly all the stories of very disturbed outcome after EMDR relate to an undiagnosed case of DID or DDNOS (Dissociative Disorder Not Otherwise Specified) when the therapist either failed to screen for DID or failed to use an appropriate protocol or both. A fractionated approach is needed, plus a process which can be quite lengthy of ensuring safety, stabilization, and containment, and only then can the patient and therapist collaborate for a fractionated approach to the abreactive trauma work. There is a special workshop which I offer on this subject to EMDR Level II trained therapists. Please review this forum and its archives for related posts.
