I have time only for a brief post here as I'm preparing to travel to give some workshops on using EMDR with dissociative disorders, but I want to make this point.... Most of the published studies on the use of EMDR with phobias have NOT used the phobia protocol as defined in Shapiro's text. It is preposterous to say that a method has been tested if the method isn't properly employed in the test. In short, fidelity checks are necessary to conduct reliable and valid research. Ad de Jongh's work has used that appropriate protocol, and found EMDR beneficial in the treatment of phobias. Dr. Robert O'Brien will be "sitting in", virtually, in my absence. Thanks, Bob.
