I want to make a couple of additional points here. Number one, I wish to caution therapists against offering specific advice on this forum to specific posters who are apparently also clients -- this is not the place for it. Number two, there are many other parts of treatment besides trauma processing in the long course of recovery from a dissociative disorder. Some of those pieces are psychoeducational, some are aided with hypnosis and/or imagery to assist in insights, ego strengthening, containment skills and much more. For some clients, cautious bilateral stimulation (not the standard EMDR protocol) can be used as imagery or hypnosis would -- to help in the acquisition of those alternative skills sets, alternative ways of framing and understanding, alternative ways of coping. EMDR should never be used against anyone will, and informed consent of the system should always be an ongoing piece of the work for dissociative clients -- with or without EMDR or bilateral stimulation.
