Thank you for an informed perspective. As a caution to readers and posters, I want to remind all concerned that this forum doesn't offer specific advice to individuals, and rather, speaks in general terms. Clients are reminded to talk to their therapists to determine whether any specific advice offered by other posters applies in their case or not. This is my standard cautionary statement.
In general terms (not specific to the client posting above, but rather, as general information only), Cynthia has pointed out the need for grounding and containment methods. I refer professional readers to prior discussions on this forum about the importance of containment skills development prior to the use of EMDR. Joanne Twombly also offered an article in the Journal Dissociation (2001, don't know which volume, probably about April/May) that discusses how to use bilateral stimulation to enhance client grounding skills.
