There is an important statement here -- that the ability to dissociate, though it has its costs and risks -- is a resource that can be used to contain unmanageable material and make it manageable. Hypnosis, imagery, and dissociation all enable affect and other traumatic material to be contained, titrated, reframed, so that it can become manageable. Once manageable it can ultimately be processed to an adaptive resolution.
