Something is not right in what was reported here. Either the EMDR therapist conducted EMDR on another therapist's client without an appropriate assessment and workup (I can't tell from the information provided here) or the EMDR therapist conducted EMDR without: 1) screening for a dissociative condition and, if present, deferring EMDR and using the appropriate protocol, or 2) preparing an appropriate containment and safe-place strategy as prework, or 3) conducting appropriate closure. Something is quite wrong here. EMDR, when done appropriately and when appropriate screening, containment, and closure strategies are employed, is not retraumatizing. All this is covered in training workshops. Sandra Paulsen Inobe, PhD
