I'm not saying it never occurs. But what we see with the condition of Dissociative Identity Disorder, in which there was severe inescapable unremitting trauma in childhood, is that the condition does not remit if it is misdiagnosed, and not treated correctly, but that recovery is possible with the right treatment. There is a dearth of research in this area.
