I am a DID client with SRA issues and I had a therapist trained in EMDR but not dissociative issues. It really messed me up!!! It triggered MANY things that I was not ready to deal with (especially with a therapist not trained in dealing with DID/SRA). It set off programming done by the occult all over the place. The "hypnotic" feature of EMDR (following therapist's finger back and forth) was terrifying for me, but she insisted on pushing forward anyway, saying I was being dramatic. She told us that we would be fine and that the process would be like watching a movie. We went into MAJOR abreactive memories and she kept going, snapping her fingers on each side of our head (big trigger!). When we didn't want to do it again, she said she would do it differently, and pressed me until I said yes. Rather than a movie, I was supposed to act like I was in a train and watching the scenery go by. Didn't work, still sent us into flashbacks. She did the snapping thing again, and was yelling at us to get off the floor and open our eyes. Someone was begging for her to stop, but she wouldn't, because we didn't use the "hand signal" she gave us to use that indicated that she needed to stop. This was not a pleasant experience for us, not one I, from a client perspective, would recommend. My current therapist, who has much experience in working with DID and SRA strongly advises against it in cases of SRA due to programming.
