My therapist did positive induction with me before we started our first EMDR session. It was very pleasant, but I'm wondering what the purpose of it was and how it relates to the rest of the EMDR work. We've now had about 20 EMDR sessions. I notice positive changes, but can see that this may go on for much longer than I'd thought. Two months ago we began to directly target more difficult memories. I previously had many years of successful talk therapy with this therapist who was very skilled in working with my history of multiple abuse starting in early childhood (no DID). But becoming a mother and other life events have brought old issues back to life. I notice that my therapist does resource installation during our EMDR sessions, but it took, for example, four sessions to bring one memory down to a SUD level of 3. I'm able to handle family responsibilities but am concerned about my work. I'm wondering if doing more positive induction might help my ability to continue with my professional work with less disruption during some of the disturbing sessions ahead.
