If someone experiences a minor dissociative episode following a short emdr session (not immediately following)can emdr be safely continued? This was a quite manageable, but strange (for lack of a better word) experience - a sense of disconnect is the best way I can describe it here. Therapist is trained, Level II plus advanced, and use of EMDR is proceeding with attention to safety and readiness. I'm just wondering if there are any cautions I need to be aware of. Ego states are a topic of therapy, therapist trained in that area. There was during that short emdr session some shifting in ego states, one seemed to come into play unexpectedly. That was new, never happened in previous emdr sessions - at least, it wasn't obvious. (ego states and not "alters" as in DID) If therapist and I are aware of and work from the concept of ego states, and if the dissociative episode was minor can emdr continue to proceed or - any suggestions? Any precautions?
