Kitchur's Strategic Developmental Model is an offshoot from the standard EMDR protocol and approach, though it is not actually inconsistent with Shapiro's conceptualizations. You should know that some consider her work controversial. I took her training and find it to be very common sense, as long as the usual cautions about screening for dissociative disorders is conducted. Comprehensive gets to be a relative term in this business. SDM comprehensively assesses family history and trauma history. It does not address some of the domains that others may customarily address (for example, I do a structured psychiatric-style interview in my initial visits, and SDM does not). In addition to the genogram, the SDM provides some guidance on target selection, based on themes emergent form the genogram and trauma history, in combination with developmental stages at which the traumata or Traumata may have occurred. It is a full two day workshop, and I found it very valuable. It changed the way I practice, and I combine it with ego state therapy routinely.
