My therapist also uses EMDR and hynotherapy along with other therapeutic techniqes/approaches. We have never tried the hynotherapy but have done some EMDR which I feel more comfortable with. However, the therapist/client relationship needed to be developed first and trust is a part of that. I don't know how much your therapist knows about your history but you may have given her enough information for her to believe EMDR is worth trying. When doing EMDR you don't have to give/tell the therapist all the details. However, I too would be reluctant to try EMDR (or hynotherapy or some other approach) after just one session with any therapist. I think you are right to be concerned at this point and suggest you talk with your therapist about EMDR, why she has suggested it and so on. There are stages to the EMDR process and maybe what she has in mind is to begin the first stages. There is information in the archives on this. Meantime, trust yourself to know what is best for you and don't be pushed into something you don't feel ready for. It is your process and it will work for you as you become ready for each step.
