In general, though not necessarily, the belief that one doesn't deserve to live can indicate very very early "lessons" that a child learned about their own value. These years are the hardest to access using EMDR. One way to get at it, though, is to target, using EMDR, the relationship between the client's parents. That relationship is the crucible in which the earliest lessons were formed. Also targeting the relationship between the client and the parent, and then the client and the other parent, can be helpful. This approach is one piece of the Maureen Kitchur's strategic developmental model, and it can be quite potent.
