I don't think halting your treatment is the solution. It seems that you have many areas to work on and your practitioner was not resourceful enough with you. I would recommend "baby steps" to your treatment. Your therapist, I would hope had an in depth history of your background. It would be helpful to work on a single event or dream instead of trying to "heal" everything all at once. EMDR can provoke an enourmous amount of distress and emotion and become overwhelming. I have been in treatment using EMDR and found that I am not strong enough in dealing with some events as I am in others. Together we decide what I feel is an important topic/area to work on that will not be overwhelming. I have been tackling small pieces one at a time and developing strength to move on in a controlled manner. Don't give up......there is hope and EMDR has been the answer for me after seven years of psychotherapy.
    Good Luck!
