I've started EMDR and I have a great relationship with the therapist. I feel unusually comfortable with her and her confidence. I have a belief that the mind and body instinctually wants to be healthy, and that things once learned can be "unlearned" and replaced by new knowledge because the mind wants to become healthy (most of the mind anyway). But that aside, how long should a typical session last? We have one hour visits and we spend time discussing how things are going, any observations I have about things since the last time we met. That lasts about 20-30 minutes. Which generally leaves about 30-40 minutes for the EMDR process each time we meet. Is this a reasonable time or should it be longer? Or is the pre-talk a part of the EMDR process too? (I won't be meeting again for about 10 days...so I thought I'd try and ask here while I wait, so that I might have a ready question/request for my therapist should it be needed.) Thanks.
