I am beginning emdr next week for ptsd related to 2 incidents in my life. The first incident involves the death of my 9 year old son, over 7 years ago and processing the trauma of the accident scene. The second incident involves the trauma I sustained after witnessing an auto accident 2 years ago and giving first aid at the scene. That incident triggered and still triggers scenes of my son's accident. I have been in counselling for 6 months now, and my counselor has been using CBT with me. It has helped me identify the flashbacks but he feels emdr will help me deal with the anxiety I struggle with, as well as the blank spots in my memory from my son's accident. My question is this: Is it normal to have increased periods of insomnia prior to beginning emdr treatment? I have had 4 nights of wakefulness, lasting 2 to 3 hours in the past week. Thank you for any info. I have read many of the post on this site and gleaned much information about emdr and possible effects. I don't remember reading anything about insomnia. Tammy
