    emotional abandonment

Can emdr be used in cases of emotional abandonment where it is known this is a part of the clients' history but there are few memories. I have one incident in particular where I can identify emotional abandonment at about the age of 10 and I know there are other earlier times. I have trouble recalling the feelings though. If emdr can be used how would it proceed? I'm not sure that I can bring the feeling state into the process, I can intellectually identify and if it were someone else I'd be able to name the experience. It's like I shut off the feeling state and yet I know it is the feeling I lived with from an early age. Please note that besides the emotional abandonment I also witnessed domestic violence and had other traumatic experiences. The abandonment issue seems to be a big area for me and one I am now ready to work at. I'm wondering how my therapist and I might use emdr for this as I plan to ask if it can be used in my situation. Any information would be helpful.
