I know of no publications on this point from an EMDR point of view, but containment is well established in hyp0nosis archives, beginning with Rick Kluft and rippling through many others of us. I end each and every single session, whether EMDR or "just" ego state therapy, with "tucking in" the parts of self that contributed. It sounds like this.... "Let's gather up any fragments of memory, pictures or sounds or anything else, and put it in (container of choice, or) Tupperware, and put the lid on it, until you hear that airproof sound. and.... I want to thank each part that helped today, even just by listening and allowing....is there anything that simply must be said before I tuck you in? Then climb aboard your fluffy white cloud, and I'll tuck you in with cloud blankets and fluff up your cloud pillows. And I'll wave goodbye as the clouds pull away and go deep inside for a deep healing sleep....deeper and deeper, deeper and deeper still." Then I check and see if the "conference room" of conscious mind is empty or if something else needs to be contained (repeat). So its a two step procedure: 1) traumatic elements are contained and 2)egotized elements are contained. PS. This time I would like anyone who uses this in publication to provide appropriate citation. Thanks.
