I hope you'll get replies from Joan Lovett MD, or Ricky Greenwald PhD or Bob Tinker PhD or Sandra Wilson PhD, since they have written books on EMDR with children.

My thought is that to enhance her trust of you and the procedure, you might first do something easy, for which she has access to positive resources, so she has a certain successful outcome. This still may pull up early material however.

Installation of "safe place" and other resources will enhance ego strength, better preparing her for addressing earlier material.

Naturally, when we process very early material, the memory of the time includes the level of developmental milestone that were met for that age. Therefore there may be insufficient ego strength to begin your EMDR work with the early material. so I think resource developmental first is your best bet.
