Again a few general comments which may or may not apply in your case. Its the therapist's responsibility, not the client's, to do the necessary screenings (example: for dissociative disorder) and to assess whether the client has sufficient strengths and resources to face the pain, or whether internal resistances might interfere. There are procedures to assist with this including installation of a "safe place," resource development, and ego state therapy to help clients get ready to and begin to access painful emotions. You might take this to your therapist to discuss whether these apply in your case.
