In general, ego state therapy can REALLY HELP, whether someone has a formal dissociative disorder or just stuff in closets in the mind. It helps by giving a voice to those disowned aspects of self, gets buy in to the process, asks what they need and what they are worried about, addresses those needs, increases their insight and cooperation with treatment, and increases their ability and willingness to contain or "tuck in" between sessions. Hence, increased stabilization and decreased affective dysregulation. Thanks to both posters for providing an opportunity to articulate two different angles on the same phenomenon. And luck and a relatively smooth healing pathway to both.
