Fractionation and EMDR?

Can anyone give me citations on where to find information about the use of fractionation in EMDR? I'm trying to figure out how to "splice" a memory for processing -- Images that come to mind are microscopic slides and sections. :-)

But I'm unsure where one "starts", what is safest, etc. Any ideas would be appreciated.
