The microscope and slides idea only just came to me as I was first posting. I think I am going to try to extend it... shave memories into mircopieces... put them between glass... examine them in and out of focus, with and without color or "dye", etc. Maybe I can create containers within containers with those sort of metaphors. Thanks for the info. :-)
