Some therapists have found it useful to add "volition" to the categories (BASK) of dissociated experiences. Volition, or one's "willful control" can play an important role in our understanding of events. It seems especially significant for comprehending the VARIATIONS in self-control of behaviors for people with trauma histories and dissociation. Often people recall areas in the BASK and do not recognize that they may have had large variations in their sense of self-control, with a range of experiences from "complete control" to "no control" over behaviors and events. It may be useful to understand that "volition" can be dissociated. As well, our "self-control" can be significantly influenced by others.
