A Carol Ann Rowland posted with questions about some of her EMDR client's ability to process very quickly. She mentioned several items, including that sessions seemed uneventful. A client posted saying she was a speedy processor and that her sessions were often uneventful, as well. Bill Peifer posted saying he had clients who also processed very rapidly but that their issues were usually single incident, adult onset... if I recall correctly. I wanted to respond and say that I am aware of clients who are DID or other NOT single incident/adult onset patients who process very quickly. In fact, in the same way that EMDR associates things TOO rapidly for some clients, leading to flooding, perhaps it makes sense that if the client is stable, properly prepared and adequately contained and supported, those associations could happen rapidly AND safely. Flooding without the crisis, so to speak. I think it would be interesting to attempt to discern what factors seem to coincide with clients being "fast processors". Is it something in the therapeutic relationship or the client themselves or what have you? Thanks for permitting this discussion, Dr. Inobe.
