They don't come back per se. Sometimes the same memory comes to mind but what is now disturbing is different somehow, so it is as if another layer of the onion has peeled up. The body has its own pace and sometimes pushes up a piece, then waits, then pushes up another piece. So we have to be discerning -- is it the exact same piece or another one? Its always another one, in my experience, as long as the first layer was processed to an adaptive resolution. So its done, really done. And managing the intensity is where it is at. If people are feeling like raw hamburger --- they are doing TOO MUCH EMDR and need to rest. Better not to get to that point.
