You may not be aware that we don't do case consultations in this forum, for a number of reasons, including the insufficiency of the information, the lack of a therapeutic relationship, and more. So my comments are always made in general. Many people have benefited from doing EMDR on abandonment and attachment issues. It can be complex work, and it isn't always achievable using the standard protocol, though the standard protocol should generally be attempted first. The standard protocol includes ensuring the person has the ability to achieve a "safe place." For many people with very early attachment injuries, this isn't enough. Other My favorite is a Remothering procedure, modified from Landry Wildwind's early contribution over a decade ago. In that procedure the therapist basically either 1) improves the existing mental representation of the mother, or we say "maternal introject" or 2) supplies a mental surrogate mother. That mother (and it can be done with the father too) supplies all the delicious loving nurturing wonderful words that babies are supposed to hear. This is a very powerful procedure emotionally. I prefer it over April Steeles Imaginal Nurturing, which has the adult self speak the words to the child self. Many people say, "I've had to do it all my life, I want it to come from outside." Of course the imagery is still inside, but the brain seems satisfied to receive it imaginally. This procedure often produces deep relaxation and comfort.
ego strengthening procedures are needed, using either Resource Development & Installation or other procedures.
As I always say, therapists should screen every client for a dissociative disorder, and if a dissociative disorder is present, only proceed with EMDR according to established procedures of treatment for the dissociative disorders.
