I'm very good at transcribing, too. :) A serious question... The therapist referred to in the initial post returned and, in discussion with my friend, told her that her poor reaction was totally unrelated to EMDR, as they had only done two sets of em's. That my friend was "just processing stuff on [her] own". My understanding is that bls, esp em's, are sufficient in and of themselves to weaken dissoicative barriers in )(esp DD) clients. That is, in fact, the stated reasons why bls devices such as the theratapper are not sold directly to clients. (The Grand tapes being an exception, and he warns against their lay use.) So, is the therapist correct... was my friend "just" processing on her own, or is it more likely that the em's triggered some sort of abreaction and/or emergence of a part of self? I am confused as to whether I am misunderstanding emdr or whether the therapist is. I have heard of few incidents where processing got stuck or too intense that quickly, but I have always heard it "blamed" on the emdr itself, not on the individual client's usual post therapeutic "processing". Do you have any thoughts?
