This is the mechanism I am suspecting! I need to learn more about it. Thank you. If I correctly understand the art therapy method you described, my approach to drawing instruction and to art in general has an altogether different aim. I advocate the use of drawing to forget the self rather than to repair it by focusing on it. In direct-perception drawing one becomes focused on objects outside the self which reduces the weight of self-concern -- which I had always assumed was the cause of much psychological dysfunction. I had also assumed that the healing I have witnessed over the years in my students(which almost always seems to come on suddenly) was the result of their attaining a state of inner silence (much like meditation) caused when the visual and fine-motor systems come together to interact with the object. But this amazing EMDR thing has me second guessing myself.
