    Bipolar/Anxiety - EMDR

    Hi,

I had severe anxiety starting 6 years ago. About a year ago, I went on Paxil for the anxiety and became manic. I was then diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I am on medication now that has helped tremendously. I have no more anxiety, can fall asleep normally and my moods are even keel. The only problem now is I continue to have nightmares every night which has gone on for years and years. One reocurring nightmare is about my brother who is 3 years older than me and sexually "abused" me (I'm not sure if what he did could be categorized as strongly as abuse) as a child. I'm 31 now and I am really tired of having these nightmares and I also believe it has affected my relationships with others as well.

I am really afraid that having EMDR therapy will bring back the anxiety though now that I finally got rid of it thanks to the medication I'm on. Is this something that could happen? Is EMDR not a good idea for someone who is bipolar with a side effect of anxiety?

    Thank you for any info.

    Kaylie
