Hi, I have a question. My understanding is that the direction of the gaze or eye flickers in NLP are supposed to indicate the time and other elements of what a client is processed... looking down = past, looking up = future, etc... I am very much simplifying, of course. My understandng re: EMDR is that em's or other bls help to reassociate previously disconnected material, insights or awareness. So the question is, could not this "reassociation" be in due part to the fact that the em's (or other bls) cause the client to shift focus in a contained and safe way from one time or "node" of knowledge to another, disconnected time or "node". (Eg, looking up and then down as em's are done.) I am making no judgment here as to which technigue inspired the other... makes no difference to me... they are obviously distinct to me, no matter if there is some "overlap" on certain points, not the least of which is that they both incorporate bodily awareness into treatment. I would appreciate any comments. Thanks!
