I find that most clients tend to start to feel a bit stuck once the SUDs get lower. I'm sure you and your therapist have already tried this, but I tend to do a lot of "what would you need to shift this from a 3 to a 2" and that sort of thing. Or, if the blocking is around fear of letting go of it/not honouring, then doing an interweave around the possibility that they could honour the memory even more by being free of the distress from it - but still remembering, choosing to live well in spite of it, etc.... Often people will start to argue once the SUDs is pretty low, that it is "ok" that they are fine w/ leaving it that way, or that it is impossible to get it lower. In my experience it is possible, even with the most horrific traumas - providing the trauma, as Dr. Inobe says, is not still ongoing. I have one client in particular who argues it every time (when doing the 'what would you need to bring this from a 2 to a 1" or whatever) that it is not possible, so I usually just say "you have felt that most times when we have done this and yet each time, it still goes down to a 0 - just think about that" and usually she comes up w/ whatever it is that she needs to clear it completely :-) My understanding is that it is usually a blocking belief - if the client can identify (while experiencing bilateral stimulation) what the blocking belief/issue is, then that can be targetted and once that and traumas associated w/ that are cleared, then the original thing targetted will also clear more easily. Even an interweave like "just go wherever you need to go in order to reduce the SUDs lower" can be effective in shifting from a stuck position.
