I'm back from the EMDRIA conference in Toronto and vacation, and wish to thank Dr. O'Brien for filling in while I was gone and for his able contributions! I have not heard of EMDR affecting menstrual cycles either, but have two thoughts: 1) EMDR can be stressful and is potentially destabilizing (temporarily) for people with complex trauma histories, so it isn't impossible for EMDR to affect menstruation since stress can affect menstrual cycles, and 2) At the same time, I'd be careful about the inference that because the two events, menstrual irregularity and EMDR, occurred at approximately the same time, that there would necessarily be a causal relationship. It could, in fact, be a coincidence, or due to being perimenopausal anyway, as you pointed out. Good luck on your various pathways! Sandra Paulsen Inobe, PhD
