As far as I know there is no research that addresses the effect of EMDR on menstrual cycles. I don't remember research on this question in regard to other ways of doing psychotherapy either.

EMDR sometimes can have a powerful effect on body sensations. The most common is that during the course of EMDR sessions the person may re-experience the body sensations that they had during the actual trauma that is being processed. At other times the information is processed without these sensations, everyone is wonderfully unique.

It is true that EMDR sessions can be stressful at times, but at least in my experience the stress between sessions is minimal (your therapist should be able to help you close down sessions that are not finished and teach you ways to contain things in between sessions).

I would encourage you to talk more about this with your therapist and also your physician. A more specific individualized response really does not belong on this list, given the lack of confidentiality, etc.
