I agree with you and am glad you spoke up because I can see my comment may be misunderstood to mean I'm talking about, say, insight oriented therapy in general. No, I'm speaking very narrowly about something that happens during EMDR, and that is that people get an insight in the course of their processing that tends to cause generalization of the insight across not only the memory being processed but across a category of related memories. It's almost like a domino effect, and occurs spontaneously for some. For others, a gentle cognitive interweave is needed to get the insight, or, a series of installations are needed to get generalization of the insight across various memories, categories, or situations. Or into the future. I thoroughly agree tho that insight alone can't begin to accomplish the release of bodily held traumatic material. The sequence we see is that the insight comes after the material has been released and neutralized.
