Ego state therapy is often of great assistance, based on clinical evidence, when EMDR is looping because of internal resistance/conflicts. Giving a voice to each part of the self is key. In non-dissociative or not-very-dissociative people, this can be done as a cognitive interweave in the middle of a stuck EMDR. In more or highly dissociative individuals, this should be done before initiating EMDR sessions as part of preparatory groundwork.
