Thanks Dr. Paulsen-Inobe - your response to my initial post helped me get through a crisis (major one for me). Besides posting my ? here I was able to later speak with someone I trusted to get more clarification. Since then I've had a therapy session (no emdr this time thank you) and my therapist and I had a great discussion on PTSD, trauma and ego states. Left his office with a book about Ego States, my therapist is quite happy I'm researching, reading, asking questions etc. I also left his office thinking "And I thought I was crazy, my therapist is even crazier than I am" - HA! HA! humour sure helps. I now realize just how much of a panic I was in and how afraid I had felt. I also realize just how normal I am and that my responses to past traumas are normal. Your response to my post helped me hang onto the trust, to ask further questions of another person and to not bolt from therapy. So, thanks. I'm really grateful this emdr forum exists. To any other readers/clients - Don't Panic (okay I know it isn't that easy at times). Just ask questions and if you don't know what the questions are, can't quite get them, then, just tell your therapist you need to know more, to discuss what is unfolding or whatever words work for you. You will, more than likely, find out as I did that it's all okay and you are not crazy or going crazy.
