I did read the posts about meditation. Actually, I've read these boards for a long time. There are actually two threads about meditation that seem helpful. However, it does seem that the moderator, sorry bad with names not meant to be disrespectful, has come to feel that EMDR and meditation are more similar as her work with them over time as progressed. I'm not sure that I agree that EMDR is that much different from all meditation. There are many forms, just as there are many experiences in meditation. Just my observation. As for the seperation that I describe, detachment, it's my sense that it's something that meditators practice for years to experience:well being, clarity, and strength to feel emotions fully and chose to act on them rather than reacting to them. It's effortless once achieved, but hard to hold. That's my experience of detachment. It's more than observation. It's a completely different physical and mental state. It's from that place that trauma can be experienced and healed because emotions cease to rule. I suspect that EMDR allows clients to experience that state for moments at a time. And, over time, the ability to hold that state increases. Just a guess.
Just a suggestion directly to the person who posted. If you are more comfortable with meditation, feel that it's as helpful as EMDR, but need support and guidance of therapy, I'd suggest that you find a therapist who will work with your meditation.
